We firmly believe that if The Lord brings a great revival to the greater D.C. area, it can change the world. When hearts are changed among the most powerful and influential people anywhere, it will demand global attention. That’s why you are receiving this letter. The Church is God’s plan to bring life to the perishing, but one person can’t reach everyone. That’s why we’re planting a church.

When I moved to Northern Virginia from Mississippi 3 years ago, I could sense the spiritual darkness of this area. It didn’t take long for me to realize that God was giving me an extreme burden to preach The Good News to the people here regardless of age, ethnicity or economic status. After almost a year of praying and seeking The Lord – I have answered the call to plant a church where I believe will make an impact the world will see. I’ve searched my heart. The driving force behind this calling is certainly not money. It is certainly not fame. It is certainly not comfort. It is the words of Jesus in John 12:25-26 – “Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who care nothing for their life in this world will keep it for eternity. Anyone who wants to be my disciple must follow me… And the Father will honor anyone who serves me.”

Whatever those words look like in your life, I pray you will be found obedient. The mission has never been more urgent. Will you please pray about being a part of this?

Living the Dream,

Brandon Hembree
Lead Pastor of IMPACT church

The name of this body we’re planting is called Impact Church. Impact occurs when two things collide. Our prayer is two-fold – that people will collide with the gospel, and from that collision, there will be a permanent impact on their lives. Our goal is to lead people, not to a church, but to Jesus Christ through serving them and inviting them to be in community with us.

Next, because Fairfax County is the richest county in America (an average family income of $162,094), we want to help them see that true purpose, peace, and joy are found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our hope is to see lives revolutionized by repentance, finding the struggle to be good enough or the striving for worldly success to be absolutely unnecessary. We desire to impact this area with the Truth of the Scriptures as they are exposed to a desperate and diverse society.

Lastly, we do not desire to be another in the fold of churches fixated on numbers. We will be a church-planting church. We will constantly be looking for the next team to send out and start a new church until house churches are literally planted all along the Beltway through Northern VA, D.C. & Baltimore. The goal is not to entertain or preach to large crowds, though such opportunities are to the glory of the Lord. Our goal is simply to follow the commission made to us: to make disciples. We don’t want a big building. We want to see changed hearts.

Fairfax, VA is less than 20 miles from Washington, D.C., and most of the people that work in the district reside in Fairfax County. The church is being planted at a resident elementary school in an available, centralized location that will allow easy access to the surrounding communities. We are renting the theatre and a number of classrooms for fellowship, teaching, and most importantly – worship.

Among the location benefits and the need for seeds of The Gospel to be sown there, it is also a distinctly diverse setting. Over 40 different languages are spoken within 7 miles of where we will have fellowship. Even though global missions will be a pillar to our vision, there will be no need to board a plane in order to have an experience of reaching the nations with the Gospel.

We are also excited that the area is so close to George Mason University, which sees over 30,000 students on it’s campus each day. We also have access to ministry in Fairfax County public schools – which are composed of some of the largest schools in the commonwealth of VA.

As overwhelming and exciting as it can be, we want to reach this vast and diverse demographic with the hope of Jesus.

We have gathered a launch team and are preparing to launch on September 23, 2012. There is no doubt that God has called us to this task. However, He has called ALL believers to make disciples of ALL people. Here are 3 ways you can live the dream with us.

PRAY  |  “So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.” - Matt. 9:38

Nothing great ever happened apart from prayer. Please pray whether it is as a family, individually or through your church.

GIVE  “You cannot be my disciple without giving up everything you own.” Luke 14:33

This church will never begin without the resources we need to reach people. We are on a 3 year task of raising funds to become self-sufficient.

COME  |  “Jesus called out to them, ‘Come, follow Me…” - Mark 1:17

One of Jesus’ first commands was to come follow Him. It wasn’t to obey the law, or give 10% or be a good person. It was to abandon your life and physically follow Him. We need people who are called to a new adventure that will stretch and challenge your walk with Jesus to come join us.

If we reach this area for Christ, it will bring about a global exposure to The Gospel that even the most powerful people can’t ignore. We need you.

To God be the glory for saving us and calling us. May He build this church, not us.
